Great Tips
Starting FEBRUARY 2023: Saddle fitting tips-
Send your questions to our Facebook page and Tiger will help you get the fit your horse deserves.
- P.U.P.
Pup stands for: Pick Up Pad!!! Make sure you pull your pad up into the gullet of your saddle before doing up the girth or cinch. This will prevent pressure and rubbing on the very sensitive area over the withers. Your horse will thank you!
- Braiding-when it's all done!
When it is time to take out all those lovely braids-wet the mane throughly first. the braids will just fall out once you cut your yarn or bands.
- Shiny Boots
Keep a pair of old Knee highs or the legs of a pair of panty hose(This probably works better for the Ladies than the Guys!)in your boot kit. They will polish your boots to a high shine in between classes. It worked for me in Army!
- Just a Bit-
If your horse is hard to bridle-try wrapping the bit in a fruit wrap/roll(available in the snack isle at the gorcery store). While he is licking the fruit, you can try slipping the bit in his mouth.
- Dancing Stirrups
If your iron "dance" all over your saddle when you longe-try using a "buck strap" with snaps to hold them still. When you are finished longing you can reclip to the dees-it just may come in handy when mounted also!
- Clipping tips
Oh yes, everyones favorite! body clipping! It doesn't have to be like root canal without Novacaine! Get your horse as clean as possible before(nothing dulls blades like dirt and grit)Have several sets of blades available. The moment the blade gets to warm to touch the back of your bare wrist-change blades. Dunk the used set in kerosene to cool and lubricate.By changing blades frequently you: don't tick off your horse with hot blades on his skin, can keep going as the blades won't pull and keep your "tracks" to a minimum. When finished take several buckeet s of warm water mixed with mineral oil or other skin softening oil and sponge him all over. you will not believe the little hairs that are still on him! Scrape and towel dry. Shiny, shiny horse!
